How a Siamese Cat Started Likelino
Hello, everyone! Welcome to my blog, where I share my passion for linocut printing and my journey as a creative entrepreneur. Today, I want to tell you the story of how a Siamese cat inspired me to start Likelino.
In 2021, I decided to take a break from my research and sharpen up my linocut skills by carving something simple and familiar. Vettie is my mom's Siamese cat and a pro dough kneader and bread. Naturally, I have a ton of photos of his baking adventures and decided to pick three and carve them.
I sketched three different poses of Vettie on a piece of linoleum, careful not to cut myself. I found the process very relaxing and satisfying and as I completed the linos I wondered how I would print them. I decided to print the linos in an alternating pattern. The print looked better than I was expecting and I decided to pitch an idea to my fellow students as a fundraiser for our fourth-year exhibition.
After the exhibition, I decided to continue the venture with one other student after we graduated and from there, Likelino has been growing steadily. I am very happy and grateful for the support that I have received thus far, and I hope to continue growing the business and experimenting with new and exciting ideas!
That’s the story of how a Siamese cat inspired my linocut business. I hope you enjoyed reading it, and I hope it inspired you to try linocut printing yourself. It’s a fun and rewarding activity, and you never know what you can create with it. Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for more updates on my blog.
